Good quality local public services, including education and training opportunities, health care and community facilities, are identified as one of the key elements for a Sustainable Communities Plan connected with crime reduction and community safety Community centres are public locations where members of a community tend to gather for group activities, social support, public information, and other purposes. They may sometimes be open for the whole community or for a specialised group within the greater community. Cultural centre is an organization, building or complex that promotes culture and arts. Cultural centers can be neighborhood community arts organizations, private facilities, government-sponsored, or activist-run.

With the city of Toronto continuing to grow in population, the city will grow vertically, meaning the need for this type of education/community facility will be vital.
Sustainable design strategies and systems have been utilized to ensure the facility will achieve LEED Silver certification.

UAE has been an Oasis for Cultural Fusion. Open Doors, Open Minds, Happiness, Giving & Tolerance, has been our inspiration to propose a free-zone as World Community Center. An Ideal to host spiritual conventions and retreats from east to west.
Our master plan design recognizes the natural beauty of the site in an attempt to create a campus of buildings, each with a unique yet complementary character.
ZAS supplied designs for a comprehensive interior signage system, donor monument, and exterior signage.
The project’s innovation lies in taking a highly complex building program and translating those needs into a unique and innovative design solution, ensuring a distinct identity for each partner.
The vision for the site was to create a ‘campus’ of available facilities for the community.
The planning of the library is both outward and inward looking and is based on a courtyard typology to create a green oasis at its centre.
With a new visual brand and façade signage it has become a visual anchor in the community.
ZAS developed an extensive overall master plan that established a wayfinding program and guidelines that assure the new brands consistent application at each of the facilities within the campus.
Visual transparency from the street and within the building achieves dynamic results.
The project is distinguishable for it’s attempts to mend a fragmented urban fabric both architecturally and socially, becoming a beacon that supports the City’s plans to encourage development along its Avenues.

ZAS completed the signage wayfinding system for the Library and Community Centre.
A major effort was the integrating building graphics to create iconic external expressions – some literal and others abstract – that identify its significance as a new public building.
This state-of-the-art building and a pedestrian tunnel are routed under the Western Gap connecting the mainland to the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
Located at a prominent intersection, our concept design capitalizes on its’ gateway location to create a substantial and powerful Civic Campus for its citizens.
Centrally located within the University Campus, the existing library occupies eight levels within the multi-storey Jorgenson Hall building.
These new library spaces provide a transformation from a “house for books” to a “house for learners”, and acknowledge the distinctive role of the library as the key learning environment beyond the classroom.
This unique $10M cultural facility combines programs for a new 475- seat concert hall and a sports gallery/entertainment centre.
Apart from accommodating program additions and functional improvements, we enhanced
the building’s street presence and provided spatial identity.
This new secondary school and community centre is a jointly planned facility for the local School Board and City.
