Halton Hills Public Library Acton Branch

ZAS’ design of the interior is welcoming to all, acting as a public living room for the community.

The new Acton Library was constructed to address accessibility issues with the former facility, and to increase space for collections, programming and services. In addition to ensuring universal accessibility throughout the library, ZAS’ design of the interior is welcoming to all, acting as a public living room for the community. By limiting fixed walls and utilizing mobile partitions and furnishing, the facility has the flexibility to accommodate changing needs well into the future. Intuitive layout and wayfinding allow for seamless navigation of the facility. In keeping with the natural theme of the facility’s park setting, wood and stone are used throughout the library, supported by a neutral warm colour palette accented by rich and vivid colours found in nature. Keeping with the community’s drive for sustainability, the selection of efficient and sustainable materials and technologies allowed the building to reach LEED Gold certification.
